5 Drivers for Your Financial Success

5 Drivers for Your Financial Success

  1. Define financial success in measurable, quantifiable terms.  Financial success must be achievable.

The liberal arts definition of success is in terms of the process – as long as I am moving in the right direction.  I disagree.  Success is a destination, while moving in the right direction is a process.  In the end, nobody cares how you get there – just get there!

Be careful, however, to set reasonable, measurable, and achievable goals.  For instance, if you have $500 to your name in the bank, a goal of becoming a millionaire by the end of the week is unlikely to come to fruition.  This objective, while measurable, is not reasonable for you.  On the other hand, if you give yourself until the end of the decade, you may have a good chance – if you adhere to the next principle, that is.

2.  Commit yourself wholly to the stated goal – do not compromise.

The next time you order bacon and eggs at a local diner, ponder the reality that while a chicken was merely involved, a hog had been committed.  We do not involve ourselves with success; we do not dabble in it – we commit to it!  I know that this isn’t very “liberal arts”, but it is the truth…

3.  If you truly want it – put it on paper.

Writing things down is the process of transforming wishes into goals; dreams into actionable plans.  A dream is intangible; it is a thought that is never meant to materialize.  A goal is a concrete and well-defined fact, and as such it is measurable and achievable.  Write it down!

4.  Fake it ‘til you make it – Embrace an uncompromising sense of the inevitability of your success.

Even if you don’t know exactly where to begin – do something.  If you have a goal, accompanied by an uncompromising sense of inevitability of your success, then success is just a matter of time.  In the words of Dr. Seuss:

And when things start to happen,
Don’t worry.  Don’t stew.
Just go right along.
You’ll start happening too.

5.  Look for mentors.

If you hang out with chickens, you’re going to cluck and if you hang out with the eagles, you are going to FLY. ~  Steve Miraboli

Now you are ready to take action – Fake it ‘Til You Make it!
